10-hydroxy-hexahydrocannabinol – 10-OH

What is 10-OH?

10-OH-HHC, or 10-hydroxy-hexahydrocannabinol, is a semi-synthetic cannabinoid derived from hexahydrocannabinol (HHC). It is obtained by metabolizing HHC in the body. When HHC is consumed, the body uses specific enzymes, such as cytochromes P450 (in particular CYP3A4, CYP2C9 and CYP2C19), to transform this substance into other compounds. Among these products, 11/10/8-OH-HHC stands out as the main metabolite.

This process, known as hydroxylation, involves the addition of a hydroxyl group (-OH) to a specific position on the HHC molecule. Specifically, the hydroxyl group is added to the eighth carbon of the ring of the HHC molecule, producing 11/10/8-OH-HHC. This gives rise to different stereoisomers, including 11/10/8-OH-9α-HHC and 11/10/8-OH-9β-HHC, each with unique properties.

Function of metabolites in cannabinoids

A metabolite is a substance formed when the body breaks down an ingested molecule, often to facilitate its elimination. Some metabolites have more potent or different effects than the original molecule.

In the case of HHC, the main metabolites are 11-OH-HHC, 10-OH-HHC and 8-OH-HHC. Studies show that these metabolites may have different biological activities. For example, 10-OH-HHC may interact differently with CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors, which influences its psychoactive effects.

What are the effects of 10-OH?

Although research on 11/10/8-OH-HHC enzymes is still in its early stages, preliminary observations suggest that it may offer similar effects to THC, but with reduced potency.

Users have reported feelings of relaxation and well-being, albeit with less pronounced euphoria compared to THC.

Is 10-OH legal in Spain and Europe?

In Spain, 10-OH is legal as long as the products containing it comply with current regulations, especially regarding THC content, which must be less than 0.2%, also in Europe as long as it complies with ≤0.3% THC.

As the legal framework is evolving rapidly, it is essential to stay informed about local regulations before considering their use.

Recommendations

10-OH is legal in Spain and Europe, but it should not be abused! Given the potency of this cannabinoid, we recommend extreme caution.

It is always advisable to consume in a relaxed environment and in moderation. Do not mix with other substances such as alcohol.

Its consumption is prohibited for people under 18 years of age, pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with a history of heart disease, autoimmune disease, epilepsy, diabetes, severe liver or kidney failure.

In case of doubt, ask your doctor for advice. Excessive consumption may alter your actions and it is recommended not to consume while driving.

10-OH products are neither a medicine nor a narcotic drug.
