Is it legal in Spain and Europe?

There is no explicit regulation, the AEMPS (Spanish Association of Medicines and Medical Devices) regulates the authorisation of Cannabis cultivation for medical and scientific purposes.

Si contemplamos el Real decreto 1729/1999 on the rules for flax and industrial hemp, only Article 12(2) provides for checks on THC content, without at any point mentioning maximum THC content. Cannabidiol is not mentioned, as it was unknown commercially at the time.

Based on the above regulations, we can say that products derived from the hemp plant (Cannabis Sativa L.) are legal regardless of the percentage of CBD (Cannabidiol), as long as it does not exceed 0.2% THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol).

What products can be consumed?

Oils

The flagship and best known product, due to the possibilities it offers for both internal and cutaneous use, is available in three compositions:

  1. Full Spectrum: contains the full chain of cannabinoids (CBD, CBDA, CBG; CBGA, CBN, CBNA…) and THC but up to 0.2%.
  2. Broad Spectrum: contains almost the entire chain, THC is removed.
  3. Isolated (Isolate): Only contains CBA and a conductive oil*.

*Conductive oil, in order to improve the absorption of CBD by our body, a natural oil is incorporated, most commonly organic hemp, sunflower, olive and coconut.

Finally the oils are measured in percentage (%) according to the rate of CBD it contains in milligrams 10% =1000 mg of CBD, the most common percentages: 5%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%.

Flowers

The second most sold product in our country are hemp flowers, rich in CBD and natural terpenes. This type of flowers are usually presented in the form of buds, trim, resins and extracts from the flower of the hemp plant.

There are a multitude of varieties, with a multitude of names, alluding to the terpene or the variety of the flower.

Its usual use is in aromatherapy or free, again these flowers must meet European standards of THC, not exceeding 0.2%.

Vapers

Vapers are a good alternative for the consumption of CBD, it is a quick and we could say “cool” way to enjoy the properties of cannabidiol.

Nectars are usually based on:

  • CBD broad spectrum oils
  • Isolate CBD crystals

The two most common formats are:

  • Rechargeable: they usually come with a cartridge that is filled with e-liquid and the battery is recharged via USB.
  • Disposable: it has a non-rechargeable internal battery, no refill cartridge but has a mechanism for immediate vaping. They usually yield between 300 and 600 puffs depending on the size of the e-liquid tank.

Like the flowers, the compound includes natural terpenes and it is recommended that they do not contain nicotine for basic health reasons and to take advantage of the properties of CBD.

Recommendations

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a supplement that will bring you a general or local well-being.

These products are not intended to replace, cure, diagnose… any type of disease.

Always try to buy in specialized stores, where they guarantee that the percentage of THC is not higher than the 0.2% allowed by the EU and that they offer analysis especially for flowers.
